Wu-tsang Chin., lit. “five [internal] organs.” Taoist doctrine distinguishes between two groups of internal organs, namely the six containers (liu-fu) and the five organs (lit. “entrails”), i.e., the lungs, the heart, the pancreas, the liver, and the kidneys. The Taoist system of correspondences between the microcosm and the macrocosm accords to these five organs corresponding phases of transformation (wu-hsing), colors, seasons, fl avors, etc.
