VIBHAJYAVĀDIN Skt., lit. “Defender of What Is To Be Differentiated”; Hīnayāna school that split off from the Sthaviras around 240 B.C.E. From this school the Mahīshāsikas and the Therāvada were produced. Its doctrine is opposed in many points to the Sarvāstivāda. The school of the Vibhajyavādins probably died out by the end of the 7th century.
