VEDANGA (Vedānga), Skt., lit. “limbs of the Veda”; supplementary texts to the Vedas, so that they can be correctly read, understood, and applied. Mainly composed in Sūtra prose style, the Vedāngas are like textbooks that cover the six Vedic auxiliary sciences. The Vedāngas belong to the body of Hindu scriptures called smriti.
