SHAIVISM or Shivaism; one of the three major devotional movements in modern-day Hinduism. The other two are Vaishnavism and Shaktism. Shaivas view Shiva as the supreme being and devote themselves to his worship alone. He is for them the creator, the maintainer, and the destroyer of the universe. Shaivism in South India is called Shaiva-Siddhānta; Shaivism in Kashmir is called Pratyabhijñā.
