Samyak-sambuddha Skt. (Pali, samma-sambuddha), lit. “fully awakened one”; refers to a being who has attained perfect complete enlightenment, has by himself rediscovered the teaching that leads to liberation after it has disappeared from the world, has fully realized it, and proclaimed it to the world. The enlightenment realized by him is called samyak-sambodhi (enlightenment of a perfect buddha). A samyak-sambuddha is characterized by omniscience (sarvajñatā) and the possession of the ten powers (dashabala).
Samyak-sambuddha is also one of the ten epithets of a buddha.
