Pai-yün kuan Chin., lit. “Monastery of the White Clouds”; a Taoist monastery (kuan) in Peking; the main monastery of the School of the Realization of Truth (ch’uan-chen tao). Pai yün kuan was constructed in 739 C.E. and restored in 1167.
During the 13th century this monastery was the residence of Ch’ui Ch’u-chih, the founder of the northern (or dragon gate) faction of the ch’üan-chen tao, who is also buried there. The present layout of the monastery dates from the Ch’ing Dynasty. It is now the headquarters of the Taoist Society of China.
