NĪTI-SHĀSTRAS (Nīti-Śāstras), Skt.; ethical scripture, having to do with wise and moral behavior. The traditional method in India of teaching such behavior involves the use of allegories, fairy tales, fables, and legends, usually in prose form, although those maxims considered to be especially worthy of consideration are inserted in verse form.
