YOGA-VASISHTHA (Yoga-Vasiṣṭha), Skt.; a work attributed to Vālmīki, in which the sage Vasishtha teaches his pupil Prince Rāma how one may come to the immutable reality that is veiled by the fleeting world of sensory impressions. The work comprises 32,000 verses. A short selection of extracts is available in English translation by Hari Prasad Shastri under the title The World within the Mind (1937; 1980).
