Dashabala (daśabala), Skt. (Pali, dasabala), lit. “ten powers”; designates ten abilities possessed by a buddha, which confer the following kinds of knowledge on him: (1) knowledge con cerning what is possible and impossible in any situation; (2) concerning the ripening of deeds (vipāka); (3) concerning the superior and inferior abilities of other beings; (4) concerning their tendencies; (5) concerning the manifold constituents of the world; (6) concerning the paths leading to the various realms of existence; (7) concerning the engendering of purity and impurity; (8) concerning the contemplations, meditative states (samādhi), the three liberations, and the absorptions (dhyāna); (9) concerning deaths and rebirths; (10) concerning the exhaustion of all defilements (āsrava).
