Buddhahood expression for the realizationof perfect enlightenment, which characterizes a buddha. The attainment of buddhahood is the birthright and highest goal of all beings. According to the highest teachings of Buddhism, as they are formulated, for example, in Zen, every sentient being has, or better, is already buddha nature (busshō); thus buddhahood cannot be “attained”; it is much more a matter of experiencing the factuality of this primordial perfection and realizing it in everyday life.
